Understanding the Security of Chrome:
Chrome has got loads of security features which includes security indicators as well as malware protection. All of these features are running continally in Chrome thus ensuring that you PC and personal information are protected all the times. Chrome uses the sandboxing technology which stops the dangerous viruses from reaching your computer.
Website security indicators:
When you navigate to website, Chrome will display security indicator to the left of the web address in Omnibox. Understanding of the indicators helps you in staying safewhen you enter the personal online.
- The non-SSL indicator will appear for most of the websites which means that the site is not using a secure connection. This is not important for lots of websites like news website or weather forecast. But you should avoid going into the personal information on these pages.
- The HTTPS indicator appears if the site is using secure connection. You need to check this icon when entering sensitive information like your birth date or credit card number. A secure connection will make it impossible for someone to access your information.
- The insecure HTTPS indicator will appear if Chrome detects the problem with the secure connection of the site. You should never enter the personal or sensitive information on an insecure site.
Malware and Phishing Protection:
In order to keep yourself protected from harmful websites Chrome automatically downloads list of dangerous as well as malicious websites and then stores that list on your PC. Whenever you navigate to the website in Chrome, the page is checked against the list. If the website is suspected to be malware or phishing site the Chrome will display a warning message instead of navigating the website. You need to click Back to safety in order to return to the last page you viewed.
Maintaining Privacy in Chrome:
Chrome takes care in order to keep your personal information provate. Ot provides several different ways to control your privacy, including modifying the provacy settings, browsing in incognito mode and deleting your history.
Privacy Settings:
Chrome lets you control the information you share online, which you can change in your privacy settings. The privacy settings can be modified by follwing these steps.
- First of all you need to click on Chrome menu located in the top right corner of the browser and then select Settings.
- The Settings tab will appear. Now you need to locate and select Show advanced settings.
- The privacy settings will appear. Now for changing basic provacy settings like enabling the malware protection. You need to check or uncheck the boxes next to each option.
- To change the specific settings click the Content settings… button.
Deleting the Browsing History:
To remove specific sites from history:
- First of all you need to click the Chrome menu in top-right corner of the browser, hover the mouse over History and after this click History.
- The History tab will appear. Click the check box next to every link you want to delete from your history and then select Remove selected items.
- A dialog box will appear then click Remove to continue.
- The selected websites will be removed from your history.
To Clear all Browsing Data:
- First of all from the History tab you need to click the Clear browsing data.
- A dialog box will appear. Select the time range and browsing data you need to delete.
- When you are all set, click Clear browsing data.
- The selected browsing history will be deleted.
Incognito Mode:
For the added privacy, Chrome provides incognito mode, which lets you browse without recording your history or storing cookies. This is a great option to keep your browsing history secret when planning party or buying a gift for someone shares you PC.
To Use Incognito Mode:
- First of all you need to click the Chrome menu located in the top-right corner of the browser and after that select New incognito windows.
- The new incognito window will appear which you will use like a regular Chrome window. Note the incognito icon in the top-left corner of the browser which will confirm that you are in incognito mode.
